Sheridan HS Girls Basketball Team Wins 4A State Championship: For the first time since 2007, the Sheridan Lady Broncs are the queens of the basketball court.
On Saturday, the girls defeated Campbell County 65-56 in the 4A State Championship Game and beat the Lady Camels for the first time in 4 tries this season.
Things did not get off to a good start, as Sheridan was down 14-3 late in the first quarter, but then the team got their act in gear and responded with a 23-4 run of their own to take the lead, and gradually pull away.
Coach Ryan Sullivan says early on there was some nervousness and frustration.
He adds when the opposition was finding ways to stop the Lady Broncs’ leading scorers from getting to the hoop, other players stepped up to fill the void.
Sheridan shot a little better than 56% for the game, and was 10 of 16 on their 3 point tries.
They also found ways to get to the free throw line and knocked down 21 out of 31 shots.
Avery McMullen led the Lady Broncs with 17 points, including 5 3’s.
Alli Ligocki added in 15 points of her own and freshman Mesa Hanft had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Sheridan finishes the season with a record of 21-6.
