Tongue River HS Basketball: At the 2A State Tournament in Casper, the Tongue River girls overcame a very low scoring 1st half and recovered to beat Rocky Mountain 37-26.

The Lady Eagles were only up 14-10 at halftime, but then outscored the Lady Grizzlies 14-1 in the third quarter to pull away for good.

Coach Amanda Cummins says the girls were getting a bit frustrated in the first half, but she anticipated that might happen, and once they calmed down, things started to fall into place.

TR will play in the first semi-final game today at 4:30pm against Pine Bluffs at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper.

The other 2A girls semi-final is between Lingle-Fort Laramie and Wyoming Indian.

The Tongue River boys went through the opposite of what the girls went through in their first round game.

The Eagles raced out to a 22-4 lead after 1 quarter and were rarely threatened after that, as they would beat Big Piney 62-39.

Up next is the semi-finals tonight at 7:30 against Wyoming Indian.

Coach Tyler Hanson says although the Eagles beat the Chiefs back in December, that was a long time ago.

Much has changed with both teams since then and he’s noticed.

The other boys semi-final game is between Lusk and Wright.

The boys defeated Cheyenne South 77-43, and the girls beat Laramie 53-34.

In the girls game, Adeline Burgess was on fire as she drained 8 3’s.

The tournament resumes today with consolation round elimination games starting as early as 9am.

The semi-finals starts at 3:30pm as the 2 Gillette girls teams play each other, and then at 5pm it’s the Lady Broncs vs. Cheyenne East.

The boys semi-finals will start at around 6:30pm.

Cheyenne Central and Natrona play first, and then at around 8pm, the Broncs play Laramie.

Sheridan Hawks Hockey: The Sheridan Hawks are back at home for the first time in 1 month, both tonight and tomorrow, as they wrap up the regular season against winless Cody.

The puck drops both nights at 7:30pm.

The Hawks have to win both games and get a lot of help in order to make the playoffs and the help is something that the team can’t control.

Coach J.J. Santagata says for whatever reason that Sheridan does not get the help that’s needed, you don’t want to be that team, that gave Cody their only win or only 2 wins of the season.

As for the help that’s needed, the Hawks need Rapid City to lose both games against Gillette in regulation, and the team needs Great Falls to lose both games vs. Butte, also in regulation.

If any of those games go to overtime, Sheridan’s playoff chances are sunk.
