Sheridan Boys Swimming And Diving Team Places 4th At State Meet: The first state culminating event of the Wyoming High School winter sports season took place this past weekend at the Boys Swimming and Diving State Championships in Laramie.
Sheridan placed 4th in the 4A team standings, thanks to winning 2 individual events, placing 3rd in another, and the team finished 3rd in all 3 relay races.
Sophomore Ben Forsythe won the 50 meter freestyle race with a time of 21.56 seconds, and the 100 meter breaststroke race with a time of 59.91 seconds.
In the preliminaries, his time in the breaststroke was 59.37 seconds, which is a new school record (old record was 1 minute 0.68 seconds set in 1989).
Ben Fackrell finished tied for 3rd in the 100 yard Butterfly with a time of 55.36 seconds.
Sheridan HS Basketball: The Sheridan Broncs picked up 2 big wins and got a little help to move into a first place tie in the 4A Northeast Quadrant.
On Friday, the boys won at home vs. Campbell County, and then on Saturday they went on the road and cooled off Thunder Basin.
TB did Sheridan a favor on Friday by beating Natrona.
This coming Friday, it’s Natrona at Sheridan in the regular season finale for both teams.
The winner gets the #1 seed out of the northeast quadrant for the regional tournament, which Sheridan is hosting.
The Sheridan Lady Broncs split their games this past weekend and are now locked into the #2 seed out of the northeast.
Back on Friday, the girls lost at home against Campbell County, and won on Saturday at Thunder Basin.
Like the boys, the girls conclude their regular season on Friday at home vs. Natrona.
Tongue River, Big Horn and Arvada-Clearmont HS Basketball: For the 2A and 1A teams, the regular season has now concluded.
The Tongue River boys won on Friday at home vs. Sundance, and also won on Saturday at Moorcroft.
The TR girls lost on Friday at home vs. Sundance, which ended their 17-game winning streak.
On Saturday they rebounded by beating Moorcroft.
Both the Eagles and Lady Eagles have the #1 seed out of the 2A Northeast heading into their respective 2A East Regional Tournaments, which starts this coming Thursday at Burns.
Both the Big Horn boys and girls split their weekend games, with both teams losing Friday at Wright and both won at home vs. Greybull on Saturday.
The Rams and Lady Rams will both carry the #3 seed into the 2A East Regional Tournament which starts this coming Thursday at Burns.
The Arvada-Clearmont boys dropped both of their weekend games at home vs. Kaycee and Midwest.
Unfortunately the Panthers finished this season with a winless campaign and will not participate in the upcoming regional tournament.
The A-C girls split their weekend games, losing at home vs. Kaycee and winning at home vs. Midwest.
The Lady Panthers will head to the 1A East Regional Tournament which starts on Thursday at Laramie.
Sheridan County HS Wrestling: The Sheridan boys placed second at the 4A East Regional Tournament held at Campbell County.
Four Broncs won their respective weight classes and 3 others finished 2nd.
The Sheridan girls won the East Regional Tournament held at Torrington, by 5 points ahead of Thunder Basin.
Three Lady Broncs finished 1st and 1 other placed 2nd.
The Tongue River boys placed 4th at the 2A East Regional Tournament that they hosted.
Caleb Vollmer was the lone Eagle to win a regional championship.
Brackets are set for the state meet which begins this coming Thursday and runs through Saturday in Casper.

Sheridan HS Nordic Skiing: Sheridan competed in a make-up meet at Cody this past weekend.
The state meet is this coming Friday and Saturday on Casper Mountain.
Sheridan County HS Indoor Track and Field: Sheridan and Big Horn were at the Simplot Games held on the campus of Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho.
All 3 Sheridan County teams will compete in the regular season finale this Thursday at Gillette.
University of Wyoming Basketball: The Wyoming Cowboys were victorious this past Saturday at San Jose State, by a score of 80-75.
The Pokes had a 15 point lead late in the first half, but the Spartans would cut it to 1 with about 1 ½ minutes to go in the game, however the Brown and Gold were able to hang on.
Sam Griffin led the team with 21 points.
Akuel Kot put in 20, Mason Walters added in 18 and Brendan Wenzel contributed with 11.
UW is now 13-12 on the season and have a 6-6 record in the Mountain West Conference, with 6 games remaining in the regular season.
The team plays again tomorrow at Nevada.
The Wyoming Cowgirls dropped their second straight game back on Saturday as they lost 75-70 at Colorado State.
The 2 biggest problems was that the ladies turned the ball over 16 times, which CSU converted into 25 points and the Lady Rams found ways to get to the free throw line, as they were 17 of 19 from the charity stripe, compared to UW’s 8 of 11.
Emily Mellema led the Cowgirls with 25 points, while Tess Barnes added in 21 and Malene Pedersen contributed with 11.
UW is now 14-10 on the season and have a 9-4 record in the Mountain West Conference which puts them in a tie for 2nd.
This week is a big week as 1st place UNLV visits Laramie on Wednesday and New Mexico is in town on Saturday.
Colorado Avalanche Hockey: The Colorado Avalanche were back at home for the first time in 2 ½ weeks and the team won yesterday vs. Arizona 4-3.
The Avs are back in action tomorrow at home vs. Vancouver.
Sheridan Hawks Hockey: The playoff hopes for the Sheridan Hawks took a big hit, as the team dropped both games this past weekend at Gillette.
Friday’s score was 5-2 and Saturday’s score was 6-2.
The Hawks have dropped 7 straight and still sit in 6th place in their division, but they are now 6 points back in the chase for the final playoff spot with only 4 games remaining in the regular season.
Sheridan concludes the road portion of their schedule this coming Friday and Saturday at Butte and return home the following weekend.
