A Sheridan Bronc football player and this year’s 4A lineman of the year has announced he will play for the brown and gold.
Alex Haswell has signed his National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play football at the University of Wyoming.
This past season Haswell had 34 tackles (18 of them solo), 7 tackles for losses including 1 sack, forced 1 fumble and blocked 1 punt.
He says he’s always had his eye on the Cowboys and the call came as he was getting ready for the biggest and final game of his high school career.
“I think the call happened right before state championship week. It was kind of unexpected honestly. I got a text from Coach Bohl and it said ‘Give me a call tonight.’ I called him, he let me know, ‘We’d like to offer you,’ and everybody in my family is gone, out of the house, I don’t remember what they were doing and my dad was home and I got to get home first and I gave him a hug and we were both kind of tearing up and just really excited for it really.”
Haswell adds he’s been playing since his flag football days, and explains what he thinks UW saw in him.
“I think my frame definitely helps for sure, but I think my biggest asset is just how hard I work on the field and off the field as well. My drive to always to be in the tackle or always play to the whistle, I think that’s my biggest asset.”
Haswell says he was already committing to UW before Coach Craig Bohl’s retirement announcement and he isn’t changing his mind.
He adds he is considering majoring in either construction management or business.
