The Big Horn Rams are set to defend their 2A Football State Championship on Friday, November 10th in Laramie, against a conference foe that they beat in ugly fashion earlier this season.

BH traveled to Torrington in mid-September and came away with a 32-27 win, but both teams have said that game could’ve gone either way.

The Rams would fumble in their own territory in the first quarter, and the TrailBlazers would drive to the 1 yard line, before fumbling the ball back.

BH also got a punt return for a TD in the 3rd quarter.

Torrington would score with less than 1 minute to go in the game, and recovered the onside kick, but couldn’t finish the job.

Big Horn Junior Quarterback Avon Barney says that an ugly win, but a win none-the-less.

“We led at the start, they kind of made some mistakes, we didn’t capitalize on a lot of them, but we’re just glad that we escaped with a win. It was a hard fought game both sides. That’s just one game that you’re like, ‘All right that’s a win, kind of got lucky.’ You could argue that we got lucky that should’ve won by 20, but also they’re possibly a dropped pass away from winning as well, so there’s 2 sides to that, but that week was 1-0 and that’s what’s important.”

Rams Coach Kirk McLaughlin says Torrington is much improved since then and it showed last week, when the TrailBlazers traveled cross state to beat previously undefeated Mountain View.

“I think they made less mistakes than Mountain View. Mountain View made a lot of mistakes, more turnovers and that type of thing and then I think Mountain View was maybe caught off guard a little bit, with what Torrington brought. Torrington’s talented. They’re a talented team, but to be able to travel clear across the state and beat a quality opponent, that was an impressive win for them.”

Kickoff for the 2A State Championship game in Laramie is scheduled for 12-noon.

You can listen to the game LIVE on AM 1410 KWYO and 106.9 FM.
