Carter McComb and Texas Tanner Named Finalists For 2022 Milward Simpson Award

Two Sheridan High School athletes from the recently graduated class of 2022, have been named as two of the most outstanding and accomplished Wyoming High School athletes, during their high school tenure.

Carter McComb and Texas Tanner have been named finalists for the boys version of the 2022 Milward-Simpson award.

The award is named after Simpson who served as team captain for the football, basketball and baseball teams at the University of Wyoming from 1917 to 1921.

McComb and Tanner are the 15th and 16th male athletes from Sheridan HS to be named a finalist for the award.

Four former Broncs have won the annual award, the last being Parker Christensen in 2019.

The 47th annual Milward Simpson winners will be announced on Saturday, June 18th.

Carter McComb (Football, Indoor Track and Field, Outdoor Track and Field): (Signed to play football at Montana Tech)

Football: Helped Sheridan win the 4A state championship in his sophomore and senior seasons and was named all-state football as a defensive back in 2021 and as a kick returner in 2019, 2020 and 2021. Selected to play in 2022 Wyoming Shrine Bowl.

Indoor Track and Field: Helped Sheridan win the state championship all 4 years, winning all-state honors in each of those 4 years.

He is the 2022 Indoor Track and Field State Champ in the 55 meter dash, 200 meter run, and part of the state champion 4 by 200 meter relay team and sprint medley relay team.

McComb is also the 2021 200 meter run state champ, as well as state runner-up in the 55 meter dash.

In 2020 he was part of the state champion 4 by 400 meter relay team, and was part of the state champion 4 by 200 meter relay team in 2019.

Outdoor Track and Field:

Helped Sheridan win the 2022 4A Boys State Championship and won all-state honors in his freshman and senior season.

McComb is the 2022 4A Boys State Champ in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, part of the state champion 4 by 100 meter relay team, and was state runner-up in the 300 meter hurdles.

In 2019, he was 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles and was part of the state champion spring medley relay team.

Texas Tanner (Football, Swimming, Indoor Track and Field, Outdoor Track and Field): (Signed to compete in Track and Field at US Air Force Academy)

Football: Helped Sheridan win the 4A state championship in his sophomore and senior seasons and was named all-state football as a defensive lineman in 2021.

Swimming: 8th in Diving at 2021 State Meet.

Indoor Track and Field: Helped Sheridan win the state championship in 2022 and was the state champ in the shot put.

Outdoor Track and Field: Helped Sheridan win the state championship in 2022. He is the 2022 4A Boys Discus state champ and the 2022 4A Boys State Runner-up in the Shot Put.
