One Sheridan High School senior will soon be forged by sea, and will jump on land.
Dulce Carroll has signed her letter of intent (LOI) to compete on the track and field team at the US Naval Academy, in particular the high jump event.
She is last year’s 4A Girls State Runner-up and says she was inspired to high jump by watching her older sister, when she did the same thing in junor high school.
Carroll adds she had considered Northern Arizona, Alaska-Fairbanks and the University of Wyoming, but chose Navy because of family history and she wanted something different.
“I’ve had relatives that have been in the Navy and the Navy to me was just what I wanted to do. Other people were like ‘Well, if you want to go fly planes, why not go to the Air Force,’ but I wanted to go put myself out of my comfort zone and that was that far away at the Naval Academy and I visited it and I love it there.”
Carroll says she wants to major in aeronautic engineering and aerospace engineering, and maybe a foreign language.
The US Naval Academy is located in Annapolis, which is the capital of Maryland.
