Delores “Dee” Habeck

December 1st, 1940–February 3, 2025.
Delores “Dee” Habeck was born at the Sheridan, WY. Hospital on December 1st, 1940 to Felix and Sefe Zamora. She was soon adopted by her Mother’s Grandparents Joeseph S. Trujillo and MereJilda Trujillo of Sheridan, WY. due to complications at birth claiming her Mother’s life, and that her Father was away in the Army during WWII. Joeseph and His Wife Merejilda had 7 children of their own, 4 boys named Don, Al, Jay and Johnny, and 3 girls named Sefe, Rose, and Adeline.
As a child, Delores was raised by her Grandparents, and lived in various places within Sheridan County. Including Clearmont/Ucross area, Tongue River north of Sheridan and out Big Goose Road. Delores attended country schools growing up, and enjoyed the ranch life. As Delores became a Teenager, her parents moved into the city Limits of Sheridan where she attended Taylor School, and Sheridan High School. She enjoyed hanging out with her friends, the Roller Skating Rink, listening to her 50’s and 60’s rock and roll records, and working at Hamburger Louie’s.
Delores Graduated from High School with the class of 1959, and soon afterward attended Sheridan College and studied Business Education, and Shorthand. In the Fall of 1968, Delores met David F. Habeck of Sundance, WY., son of Bill F. and Phyllis M. Habeck, at a dance in Sheridan, and was married in November 1968 in Las Vegas, NV., with a Honeymoon following in Mexico. They continued to live in Sheridan, and later in May of 1971 they had a son named Steven W. Habeck. Later in 1971 Delores and her family would move to Gillette, WY. and start a new life. Delores, using her College education, worked as a secretary at various places in Gillette, Including Wyodak Mine, and the Carter Mining Company. During her time in Gillette, Delores enjoyed being a wife, raising their son Steven, and just being a typical family. Delores would live in Gillette until the summer of 1979, in which they decided to leave Gillette and move to a more peaceful environment in Buffalo, Wyoming.
Delores enjoyed living in Buffalo, WY and liked living close to the mountains, and the wildlife. Soon after moving to Buffalo, she would move out to an area in the country known as Kearney, named after the Historical nearby Fort. During her time in Kearney, Delores worked as a Special Needs Teacher at a nearby Country School for many years, where she really enjoyed working with the children, and enjoyed her profession. Delores really enjoyed the “country” life, and enjoying the simpler things in life. Delores enjoyed going for country rides, fishing, gardening, wildlife, friends, going to her son’s High School sporting events, and the family life. She would live in Kearney until January of 1989 when she would once again move back to Buffalo, where she was previously employed by the Senior Center as a secretary and had worked there for years. Delores continued to live in Buffalo until the fall of 1992, until she and her husband decided to buy a place in the country near the Story/Banner, WY area.
After moving to the Story/Banner area, Delores was enjoying the country life and retirement with her Husband when tragedy struck. David was diagnosed with mesothelioma and passed away 6 weeks later in Sept of 1996. After losing her Husband of 26 years, Delores decided in 1997 to once again move back to Sheridan, WY, which she always considered home, and bought a house. After her Husband’s passing, Delores decided to go back to Sheridan College and take some classes, where she got her degree as a Medical Transcriptionist, and a cake decorator. A few years later, Delores decided to go back to her roots, and got a job at Sagebrush Elementary School where she got hired as a Special Needs Teacher, and continued to work for the school district for many years until retirement, upon which she still would come in from time to time as a substitute.
Delores enjoyed many things in her golden years, she enjoyed spending time working on her yard and flower gardens, spending time with friends and relatives, traveling to Deadwood and Vegas for the holidays, and most of all enjoyed her cats, and the rabbits and squirrels in the yard which she would feed. Delores was also active in the First Christian Church, and the First Christian Church Women’s Club, cooking for the homeless shelter, her lady friend Club G.N.O (girls night out), and used to like to take all kinds of Art and Craft Classes. Delores had a very busy, happy and fulfilled life.
Delores will be remembered as a loving Daughter, Wife, Mother and Friend. She was a very kind, selfless and giving person, and her laughter, smile, and presence will truly be missed by all.
