Ron RichterA sentencing hearing for 31-year-old Cody Knode-Porter was held Thursday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
Knode-Porter, on January 11, was arrested and charged with Felony Taking a Controlled Substance Into Jail for attempting to take methamphetamine into the Sheridan County Detention Center. Knode-Porter had his probation revoked in January for several failed drug tests through Sheridan County Probation and Parole. He was convicted of Felony Strangulation of a Household Member in February of 2019 and sentenced to 3 to 5 years in prison, which was suspended in lieu of supervised probation.
During the sentencing hearing, Sheridan County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Christopher LaRosa said while on probation for the strangulation conviction, Knode-Porter was convicted of three misdemeanor crimes and has had his probation revoked twice. LaRosa, in regard to the latest charge of taking drugs into jail, said the defendant committed a felony while on probation for a felony, and that is why he recommended the sentence run consecutive to the sentence Knode-Porter is currently serving.
District Court Judge John Fenn accepted the plea agreement that was reached with the State, and sentenced Knode-Porter to 1 ½ to 2 years in prison, to run consecutively to the sentence he’s currently serving for the strangulation conviction. Judge Fenn also ordered Knode-Porter to pay $325 in various court costs and fees.
