BPD’s ‘Operation Blue Santa’ a Success Again in 2024

Buffalo’s City Council, at a recent meeting, was given an update on the Buffalo Police Department’s Operation Blue Santa for Christmas 2024.
Erika McCarter, public safety administrator with the BPD, and her husband Brian, an officer with the department, organize the annual event which helps local families in need during the holidays.
She explained further.
McCarder said in 2024 they sponsored five families totaling 27 people with most families having children ranging in age from early grade school through college students, so support they gave to the families was diverse.
The biggest needs this year were for rent and mortgage assistance, help with food and groceries, and fuel.
She said every year the program tries to tackle past-due bill assistance, medical needs, and vehicle-related issues.
This year was the best yet, as they exceeded their donations from 2023 by nearly $4,000 which was above and beyond the $10,000 donation from the Longmire Foundation, according to McCarder.
Police Chief Sean Bissett thanked the McCarders and the rest of the department and other volunteers that help with the program.
