With a full agenda, the SCSD #3, Clearmont, addressed several topics at the May 12 meeting. The board had a work session from 5-6 pm., followed by a meeting of the Clear Creek Recreation District.

During the work session, two staff members, Misty Balleck, Special Education Teacher and Josh Johnson, Head of Transportation, were named employee of the year for the 2020-21 School year.

Amy Vineyard, board chairman, said that “I believe that Josh always goes above and beyond and keeps the bus barn organized.” Josh received two nominations for the honor.

The Clear Creek Recreation District reported on the state of the Rec District and the old brick school building that houses the Rec District gym and weight room and game room. The board approved the lease agreement between the District and the school, and approved the purchase of a water bottle filling station in the rec district building. Sarah Walker, Rec District Manager, said that there was very low attendance between the hours of 5 and 6 pm., and she suggested that they have shorter hours in the summer.

There was discussion about what might be done to improve attendance, but no action was taken except the board voted to set the hours from 6 to 8 p.m. during the summer.

The board called their meeting to order at 7 p.m.

Superintendent Charles Auzqui reported that there is a new computer at the bus barn, and all the offices computers have either been replaced or updated. Old technology will be sold later in the summer. “We will also have a new bus, and we have a bid in for a new activity bus as well.”

Jay Buhr, maintenance, said the school is looking to collaborate with the town of Clearmont, as sharing of mowers and other equipment is beneficial for both the school and the town.

Auzqui also reported on the new storage building the school is planning to build to store track equipment and other equipment. He felt it would be a good thing for the school down the road, and that it would be a good use of major maintenance money.

Rohrer added, “We need it to protect the investment in track equipment.”

Dr. Gerry Chase, Acting Superintendent

Dr. Gerry Chase, A/C Music teacher, will undertake the duties of acting superintendent while the board searches for an interim superintendent to help fill the gap created by Auzqui’s resignation.

The board also voted to pay employees a one-time bonus.

“This is necessasry this year more than any other, due to their dedication to keeping the kids in school this year. This is one way we can recognize what the teachers have done during Covid-19.”

Board member Tiffany Lewis, who joined the meeting via zoom, said, “This is a great use of our budget money.”

It was also approved to give Debbie Gorzalka, who is retiring from her post as school librarian, a one-time retirement package.

It was noted that Graduation will be on May 30, at 2 pm at A/C School.
