Serving as a dispatcher is a fulfilling job, according to Communications Officer Shelby Pippin. Pippin has been serving the community as a communications officer for approximately six months.
Sheridan PD Sergeant Dan Keller told listeners of Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse the basic requirements needed to apply for the position.
Pippin told listeners she has always wanted to find a job that offered opportunities to serve the community that she loves and help people.
Although she had some dispatching experience in the past, she underwent the Sheridan PD’s 12 week training program once she met the requirements for hire.
Pippin sits behind six computer screens, she answers calls from people in need, many times, it’s a matter of life and death. She knows where the SPD officers are in the field at all times and aides in coordination between the department and Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the tireless first responders and Fire Department.
The position is not without stress and pressure, but at the end of the day, the job is vital to the community and leaves one feeling fulfilled, according to Pippin.
