Pat BlairAfter Lisa McClintock was named Rooted in Wyoming’s 2020 Volunteer of the Year earlier this month, Holy Name Catholic School provided some additional information to Sheridan Media about McClintock and the Garden of Isidore.
McClintock’s service to the school’s Garden of Isidore was the project that earned the award for her.
Holy Name Principal Mary Legler noted that McClintock and children at the school, spent well over 50 hours of their own time on the garden in 2020, and organized teachers and parents to participate in tending the garden through last summer.
Legler noted the garden, which was named for Isidore, the patron saint of farmers, has been growing since 2017. In addition to being beautiful, according to Legler, the garden is functional. A blurb posted online by McClintock notes that the garden in addition to serving as a source for fresh produce serves as an extension of Holy Name’s science lab, complete with an observatory hive of bees that help with pollination.
Legler said Holy Name students eat fruits and vegetables from the garden for snacks and learn about gardening.
Students who returned to the school in fall 2020 found cucumbers, pumpkins, tomatoes and peppers blooming as a result of the work done in the summer.
