A Sheridan High School grad is trying to help with the Sheridan County affordable housing situation.

Developer Tanner Greig, who is a 2018 Sheridan High School grad, has been working on putting together some housing in the Downer Addition area, located on the southwest corner of Taylor Avenue and West 15th Street.

Four houses are nearly completed and will be for sale soon, while 8 more are on the way.

Greig says the current work is a test bed for a much larger project.

“A lot of the people that I grew up with in the town have moved away due to lack of housing and lack of affordability here so, trying to get some more affordable housing and allow people that are actually living here to stay here. Constantly looking for property and talking with the city about developing a whole neighborhood that would be designed around these and not have the weird caveats that are with these lots, being only 40 feet wide, actually develop a neighborhood around with this product and do a much larger subdivision.”

Greig adds the houses currently being worked on are 3 or 4 bedroom units, and when ready to sell, should cost around $300-thousand.

    Mr Greig,
I commend you for your time and efforts into the affordable housing crisis here in Sheridan. I had been a carpenter for over 30 years here in Sheridan. Unfortunately, I never ended up getting my contractions license and worked for three different companies. All of whom I speak highly of for the most part. Only one of them built housing that “local” residents could afford, and he ended up retiring, causing me to seek other employment. The other companies did not work out so well. They were great guys, but money was the main concern. I am now totally out of the business and working in a job that makes me happy with zero stress. I wish you the best luck and if you ever need any subcontractor contacts my phone is full of them. Thank you for thinking of the little guy where some of us could not.
