The Chief did not discourage the sharing of photos or experiences on social media, even citing his own interests in hunting and outdoor social media sites. But waiting to post photos after returning home is another simple step to keeping one’s home and property safe from would-be criminals.

The SPD Chief and Captain also suggested having a hold put on mail and newspaper delivery. Asking or hiring someone to shovel the driveway and walk to give the appearance of someone staying at the residence. Many devices also give the appearance of presence, such as motion activated lights or timers that ensure lights turn on in the house at designated times of the day.
