The City of Sheridan is taking steps to address any taste and odor issues that ash from the Elk Fire may cause in the City’s water supply. The City issued a media release that states they have not seen an increase in turbidity, which suggests that ash, or sediment carrying ash, is entering the water supply; however, City officials continue to monitor the situation.

The release further states that although the City has yet to receive widespread comments or calls about the taste and odor of the water, they are addressing the issue proactively. The City has tested the ash in their lab and confirmed that it can effectively be removed with their treatment methods.

Tuesday,  the City’s water treatment team began utilizing activated carbon in the treatment process to prevent any potential taste and odor issues. The activated carbon will absorb the ash, which will then be removed through the conventional treatment processes. As the City works to prevent any taste and odor problems, they will continuously monitor their progress and make adjustments as needed.
