The Sheridan Chess Association, (SCA), a 501c3, will host the Wyoming Chess Championship Tournament Sept. 28-29 at the Kalif Shrine Center in Sheridan.
The Wyoming Chess Championship Tournament is a closed tournament in which only players from Wyoming can compete and registration is now open.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, lifelong chess competitors and Sheridan Chess Association board members Dan Casey and Mike (Mac) McLaughlin spoke on the upcoming tournament designed for chess players specifically from the Cowboy State.
Through the work of the Sheridan Chess Association, Sheridan County’s Fulmer Library has one of the largest collections of chess media. In online competition among states, to date, players in Sheridan have brought Wyoming to 15 wins and zero losses. The SCA’s involvement in schools, lessons, weekly chess play and sponsoring a young lady to a national competition has made Wyoming’s emerald city a chess tournament destination.
