SCSD#2 Board of Trustees Met Monday

SCSD#2 Board met on Monday, March 4, with a light agenda. There were several recognitions including acknowledging the work that the school nurses do.
Traci Turk, Special Education Director, talked about the nurses in the SCSD#2 schools. Two nurses Debra Malmberg of Meadowlark, and Shannon Haraden of Sagebrush, attended the meeting.

Other recognitions included the two National Merit Finalists. Scott Cleland, Principal at SHS, introduced the students honored this year.
The board also recognized the Spring Musical Brigadoon cast, and the cast members present entertained the board with a cappella song from the event; Boys’ Swimming individual State Champion Ben Forsythe; Girls Wrestling champions Paityn Covolo and Becca Oetken; and Boys’ Wrestling Individual State Champions Cody Dunham, Dane Steel, & Nahir Aguirre.

Scott Stults, Superintendent at SCSD#2, in his report, talked about goals that the school system is working on.
One goal is for school board trustees, and that they can earn points for professional development. Right now 56% of the trustees have earned 50 points or more, and once the board members attend board retreats and the school board conference, all the board members will have met the benchmark. “Congratulations,” Stults said.
The second goal he mentioned communication, and said based on the survey, that 85% of shareholders are indicated that communication between the school and shareholders was positive.
He talked about the students who were recognized at the board meeting.

He also talked about how the community reaches out to other community members, such as raising money to help the Krinkee family who suffered such a devastating loss.
Rebecca Adsit, assistant superintendent, talked about the kindergarten registration, and the number of students already registered for the fall kindergarten classes.

She also talked about the student handbooks, and Trustee Fessler felt the pictures in the John C. Schiffer School handbook spelled out the dress code better than a long written description.
Several policies were discussed and approved, and Troy Decker presented bids for the gym floor refinishing and pavement maintenance.
