Aaron PalmerBuffalo’s City Council, during their regular meeting Tuesday evening, approved Resolution No. 1474, an amendment to their annual appropriation bill, or budget, for the 2023-24 fiscal year that ends June 30, 2024.
The amendment will add just over $26,000 to the budget, and will allow the city to purchase body armor for officers with the Buffalo Police Department.
Police Chief Sean Bissett said the department’s current body armor is reaching the end of its useful life, and explained how the city got the funding for the new armor.
Bissett said the representative from the body armor company has fitted the officers for it and the new vests are expected to be delivered at the end of January.
Mayor Shane Schrader and the council thanked John and Amber Moreland for their donation.
The council voted to approve the budget amendment for the purchase.
