Buffalo’s City Council has agreed to help pursue a grant through the Wyoming Business Council to create an economic development plan which will, according to Jerry Spiering, will help determine detailed housing needs to pursue attainable housing in the area.

Specifically, Spiering was looking for the approval of a list of things relating to the needs assessment.

First, he was asking for a decision on who would apply for the grant and who would write the grant application; second, to choose a leader to spearhead the effort; and third agreement from the city and county to each fund the 25% match for the grant should it be awarded.

The application needs to be completed by February 1.

The council, after some discussion, voted to approve a motion to pursue the grant contingent upon the Johnson County Commission’s consent and approval, and to allow City Clerk Julie Silbernagel to write the grant application if the county agrees.
