On Nov. 16, the Museum at the Bighorns announced plans to relocate to the downtown area of Sheridan.

Executive Director Dani Stuckle made an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to talk about the decision to move Sheridan’s history museum.

Stuckle said the interior of the historic Woolworth building at 171 North Main Str. will undergo some remodeling to provide a welcoming space for visitors while providing enough space to house and protect the historic artifacts of Sheridan’s history.

Stuckle took charge of the Museum at the Bighorns just a little over a year ago. She said when deciding on locations to accept a new position, Sheridan stood out due to the care and work the community puts into the downtown area.

In her time as executive director, she said she has taken note of events, foot traffic and activities in Sheridan and feels the museum would be better suited and serve the community better in the new downtown location.

Stuckle said the Museum will temporarily close after the annual Holiday Open House on Saturday, Dec. 16, and will reopen in the new downtown location in the Spring of 2025.

At the end of a remodel, staff and carefully trained volunteers will help relocate approximately 30,000 historical items, each having to be properly preserved, inventoried and cataloged.

Remodel plans include construction of exhibits focused on hands-on learning experiences and will include interactive elements.
