Last Monday, a student that was arriving early to Woodland Park Elementary School in Sheridan collapsed while walking towards the entrance. School staff including their on-staff registered nurse responded and emergency personnel were notified. While waiting for the emergency responders, the school nurse Noele Mena administered CPR and utilized an AED to get the child’s heart beating properly.

When the ambulance arrived, the child was transported to Sheridan Memorial Hospital and then later on to the Denver Children’s Hospital Cardiac unit. The child’s family were unaware that the student had a heart condition prior to the incident. It is expected that the student will be back in class as soon as next week.
