Superintendent Jones Talks about Back to School at SCSD#1

School will start in SCSD#1 on Monday, August 24. Dr. Jeff Jones, who has been superintendent for the past four years, talked about the upcoming school year.

He had this to say about his staffing in the district.

Housing is always an issue in Sheridan County, and the SCSD#1 District is not exception.

Jones talked about the legislature passing the recalibration bill this past year, and how it affects SCSD#1.

He said they will be happy to see all the students to come back for another year.

In his superintendents report for the board in July, Jones said that is including important “back to school” information.

One item was school supply lists. He said that a couple years ago our administrative team met to discuss each school’s supply list with the goal of reducing the cost expectations for parents. This remains a priority and is reflected in the lists. A link to the school supply lists can be found on our district homepage under the tab “Parents” at the top of the homepage. If anyone has any questions about anything, they are encouraged to reach out to them at the district office. They are there Monday – Thursday 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and on Fridays 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

The 2026-27 school calendar can be found on the SCSD#1 website homepage under the tab “Calendars” at the top. The last day of school for students is on Friday, June 4th. The high school graduations will be held on Saturday, May 29th with Tongue River’s being held at 1 p.m. and Big Horn’s at 4 p.m.

He added that for students new to the district, they must be pre-registered. Registration for new students is now open and the information can be found on the homepage of our district website under the “Student Registration” tab at the very top right of the homepage. As a reminder, all returning students (whether you are in-district or out of district) must be registered by their parent/guardian at the beginning of every school year. The Returning Student Registration window will be open the week of August 3rd. All registrations must be completed by Tuesday, September 8th. We will send parents reminders, but please understand, students who are not registered by the September 8th deadline are not allowed to participate in activities as an unenrolled student.

He also added that in SCSD#1 he appreciates what the crew is doing behind the scenes to make the district a great place for students to learn and for the staff to do what they love! “You are the BEST!”
