Big Horn Football Team Ready For Semi-Final Rematch At Home Vs. Lyman

For the second year in a row, the Big Horn Rams football team will host Lyman in the 2A Semi-Finals, with a trip to Laramie waiting in the wings for the winner.

The Eagles come into the game with the best rushing attack in Class 2A and the 2nd best rushing attack in all classes of 11-man football, averaging almost 262 yards per game.

Stat-wise that’s been their strength, because they have the 3rd worst passing game, averaging 56 yards per contest.

BH Coach Kirk McLaughlin says in practice this week, the team has spending most of its defense efforts on stopping the run, but they are aware that if the opposition sees an opportunity to take it to the air, they will.

“They’ll send a guy deep, they’ll run some slant routes, they have some different passing schemes that we got to be ready for and not get caught off-guard, but it’s definitely a stop the run kind of a week. There’s a lot more focus on the run, but we don’t want to fall asleep. Watching some of their film they were able to go down and get some scores on some big pass plays.”

McLaughlin also says Lyman can be a very mentally disciplined team when the score is close, regardless of how much time is left and if they’re winning or losing.

Last year’s 7-nothing win by the Rams, and last week’s 1-point win for the Eagles over Tongue River proves that.

“They don’t panic, they don’t start doing crazy things on defense or offense, they just do what they do, and that’s that discipline I was talking about. They’re not going to screw themselves over by making a bunch of mistakes. They’re going to stay in the game by doing the right thing all of the time. They just know how to win football games, whether it’s close, they stay the course. They don’t mess around.”

Kickoff at Big Horn on Friday is scheduled for 12-noon.
