Chance Morris Of Sheridan HS To Run Track At University Of Wyoming

Wyoming’s fastest High School Track runner will trade in his blue and gold, to run for the Brown and Gold.
Chance Morris has signed a written offer of athletic aid to compete at the University of Wyoming.
The senior is last year’s 4A Outdoor State Champ in the 100 and 200 meter dash races.
He is also this year’s Indoor State Champ in the 55 and 200 meter dash races, and the new state record holder in those 2 events.
Morris has only been competing for 3 years and says there were a few other schools that had reached out to him, but they underestimated him and he has bigger plans.
“Colorado State and Boise and South Dakota State, but none of them had scholarship money. They all wanted me on their team as a walk-on, but I didn’t want to do that. I feel like I was better than a walk-on. I felt like I deserved at least a little bit of money. My goal this year was to kind of show the country that Wyoming isn’t just a distance state. They got some sprinters. They got some athletes. They’re not just a Cowboy State.”
He adds that he was impressed that the UW Track and Field program is trying to stay in-state with recruiting.
“They want to build a Wyoming team as much as they can and I think that it’s going to be more possible now-a-days, because the Wyoming competition has gotten so much better and I just think that they wanted me because I’m a hard worker and I’ve got the right times for it.”
Morris says he plans to major in engineering.
