The Sheridan College Rodeo Team had another successful weekend on the road, with multiple student-athletes putting up strong performances in breakaway roping, barrel racing, and saddle bronc riding.

On the men’s team, Jake Schlattmann and Christopher Nelson both advanced to the short-round in saddle bronc riding.

Nelson entered in sixth place and Schlattmann in tenth.

In the short-go, Nelson made a strong ride to finish third in the average, while Schlattmann placed seventh.

Schlattmann currently sits fourth in the Central Rocky Mountain Region standings, with the top three point earners advancing to the College National Finals.

“The support for our rodeo team means everything,” said Harris. “It takes a village, and we are sure proud of ours.”

In the women’s breakaway roping, four Sheridan College athletes—Taylor McGregor, Sierra McGregor, Faith Heim, and Maci DeHaan—finished inside the top 20 out of a competitive field of 103 ropers.

“Taylor, Sierra, and Faith each roped in 3.2 seconds, just shy of the 3.0-second cutoff to advance to the short-round,” said head coach Bobby Harris. “In a tough pen of calves, our girls handled their ropes like champions and scored like rock stars. We are unbelievably
proud of their hard work and dedication.”

In barrel racing, competition was equally fierce. DeHaan narrowly missed the short-round, placing 11th in the long-go with a time of 15.62 seconds, just 0.01 seconds off the qualifying mark of 15.61 seconds.

Heim also finished strong, placing 14th in the long-go.

Coach Harris shared, “This coming weekend in Casper, we plan to go fast and turn barrels sharper.”

The team will travel to Casper, Wyo., this coming weekend, April 11-13.
