Sheridan College is excited to announce the appointment of Zane Garstad as the interim head coach for the Generals Rodeo Team for the Fall 2024 season.

Garstad is a familiar face in the halls and arena at SC, having previously served as Rodeo Coach in the 1990s.

He continued a 22-year career at Sheridan College in various roles such as Director of Admissions and Director of College Services.

“We are thrilled to have Zane step into this role during the transition. He brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for rodeo. He has always ridden for the SC brand and was honored by the Sheridan College Foundation in 2023 as our Distinguished Alum,” said SC President Walt Tribley. “His extensive knowledge of the sport and dedication to student success will be invaluable as we continue to build on the successes of our competitive rodeo program.”

Garstad has been involved in rodeo for the majority of his life, competing in youth rodeos and earning rodeo scholarships to attend Sheridan College and the University of Wyoming.

He qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo in 1983, and went on to become a member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association in 1985, qualifying for the Mountain States Circuit Finals in 1987 and 1992.

As the interim coach, Garstad will lead the team through the upcoming fall season, focusing on developing student-athletes both in their rodeo skills and academic pursuits.

The rodeo program at Sheridan College is committed to fostering a supportive environment that emphasizes teamwork, discipline, and personal growth.

The college is currently in the process of beginning a search for a permanent head coach, but in the meantime, Garstad is eager to get started and engage with the team.

“I am honored to take on this role and am excited to work with our talented rodeo athletes,” said Garstad. “Together, we will strive for excellence both in the classroom and in the arena.”
