A Sheridan High School long distance runner will run further distances at the collegiate level.

Landrum Wiley has signed his National Letter of Intent (NLI) to compete on the cross country and track and field teams at Black Hills State University.

At the Wyoming High School Indoor Track and Field State Meet earlier this month, he placed 2nd in both the 1600 meter and 3200 meter run events, and was 3rd in the 800 meter run.

At last year’s Outdoor Track and Field State Meet, Wiley was part of the state champion 4 by 800 meter relay team, and placed 12th at the State Cross Country Meet, back in October.

He says a meeting between his current head coach and future head coach is what got the ball rolling.

“The head coach of cross country came to one of my meets in Spearfish and he thought I would be a pretty good candidate. My Head Coach, Bowers, he said he talked me up to him one day, so I hope that they think I’m a hard worker and that they want me on their team.”

Wiley adds he is considering majoring in exercise science.
