BRONC / LADY BRONC HOOPS – When you only have three other teams in your quadrant, all the head-to-head matchups are that much more important, because it will affect seeding for regional basketball tournaments.
So far the Sheridan Bronc boys basketball team is off to a great start after beating both Gillette teams, and now have a 2-0 record in quadrant play, Head coach Jeff Martini.
This weekend will be a busy one as both the Broncs and Lady Broncs will play three games in four days, but it’s the first one that matters, Sheridan is home against Natrona county on Friday, which is a 4-A Northeast quadrant match-up.
On Saturday both teams will travel to Worland, and then on Monday, they will play the make-up game at home against Kelly Walsh.
EAGLES / LADY EAGLES HOOPS – The Tongue River basketball teams play Thursday at home against Kaycee, and then on Saturday at home against Greybull.
RAMS / LADY RAMS HOOPS – Big Horn will play three games in as many days it starts on Thursday at Greybull, then Friday at Wright and concludes on Saturday at home vs. Rocky Mountain.
A/C HOOPS – Arvada / Clearmont will play later today at home against the Campbell county sophomore team, then on Friday they travel to Kaycee, and return home on Saturday to play Guernsey-Sunrise.
WRESTLING – Any Wyoming high school wrestler who is a contender for a state championship knows that this weekend is a preview of the state tournament.
It’s the annual Ron Thon tournament in Riverton, and unlike the state championships where you only wrestle against teams in your own class, at Ron Thon it’s every team for themselves, no matter what class they’re in.
Sheridan will be there Friday and Saturday, but before then, they will compete in a dual at Natrona on Thursday.
Tongue River will wrestle Saturday at a tournament at Hardin, Montana.
SWIMMING / DIVING – The Sheridan Bronc swimmers and divers will compete in their home finale at 4pm today at the Sheridan junior high pool against Campbell county and Thunder Basin. The state meet is less than a month away.
TRACK AND NORDIC SKIING – Indoor track and field athletes will compete Thursday at Gillette, and the Sheridan Nordic ski team will compete this weekend on Casper mountain.
WHSAA – Along the lines of high school sports, Wyoming High School Activities Association Commissioner Ron Laird has announced he will retire at the end of June.
He’s been the commissioner since 2004, and before that he was in Powell for 26 years as a teacher and administrator, as well as a basketball coach for 20 years.
Laird says during his time one of the biggest changes that he’s seen is in both technology with the internet, as well as increased media coverage of various high school sporting events.
The WHSAA Board of Directors will soon start the process of finding a new Commissioner.
COWBOY HOOPS – The Wyoming basketball Cowboys will be on the court tonight at UNLV, you can hear that game live on KWYO 14-10 AM and 106.9 FM tip off is scheduled for 9pm.
JUNIOR HAWKS – After having a weekend off from competition, the Sheridan Junior Hawks hockey team will be back in action this weekend with two games at the Badlands Sabres in Rapid City. The next home game isn’t until February 10th.
