VOLLEYBALL – The Wyoming state volleyball championships wrapped up Saturday night, Sheridan Media’s Kevin Koile has the wrap up.
STATE SWIMMING AND DIVING – The girls swimming season ended in Laramie over the weekend with the state championships, the Lady Broncs finished 6th.
Olivia Dannhaus placed 3rd in the 200 yard IM and was 2nd in the 100 yard Breaststroke.
Maggie Turpin and Emily Walton placed 3rd and 4th respectively in diving.
The 200 yard medley relay team placed 4th (Ivanna Skydan, Olivia Dannhaus, Jaylynn Morgan, Avery McMullen.
RAMS FOOTBALL – The Big Horn Rams get another shot at the title after holding off Lyman Friday in the semi finals, the defense came through with three critical stops in the 4th quarter, as the Rams would beat the 2-time defending state champs 7-0.
The Rams got on the board late in the first quarter, as Drew Heermann ran in from 3 yards out.
The score would remain 7-0 in the 4th quarter and Lyman was knocking on the door, but the Rams kept them out, first Caleb Gibson tackled an Eagle receiver at the 5 on 4th down to force a turnover on downs.
Two plays later the Rams would fumble on their own 7, but the defense held and stopped quarterback Carter Bradshaw on 4th down at the one yard line
Late in the game Cooper Garber made an interception to seal the win. Afterwards Head coach Kirk McLaughlin gave a lot of credit to the rams bend but don’t break defense that went up against an Eagle team that had the 2nd best rushing attack in 2A.
The Rams get a rematch against Lovell in the 2A state championship game Friday we will have the game live for you on 14-10 KWYO and 106.9 FM kickoff is scheduled for noon.
BRONC FOOTBALL – It was an epic battle and historic night as the Broncs beat Cheyenne Central 63-42 to get back to the 4-A state title game.
Bronc Senior Colson Coon set a new Wyoming 11 man football record rushing for 517 yards and with that he scored seven touchdowns as the Broncs held off Central all night.
Coon says they didn’t expect a shoot out with Central but it turned into a wild game.
And talking about his big night he gave credit to the offensive line for making it happen.
And now they get ready for another trip to War Memorial Stadium.
Head coach Jeff Mowry says getting another shot at a state title is great, it will be the Broncs 10th trip to Laramie 2009.
They face Cheyenne East for the state title Saturday and we will have it live on KWYO 14-10 AM and 106.9 FM the First Federal bank and trust pregame show will start at 3:30.
COWBOY FOOTBALL – The Wyoming Cowboys play at Colorado state Saturday night kickoff is set for 5:00.
BRONCO FOOTBALL – The Denver Broncos play a road game at the Tennessee Titans Sunday.
JUNIOR HOCKEY – The Sheridan Junior Hawks were swept by Gillette by scores of 13-4 and 11-2, the Hawks will play at home Friday and Saturday against Great Falls, Montana.
