The Sheridan County Historical Preservation Commission is a seven person commission tasked with the mission of enhancing and protecting Sheridan County’s cultural heritage and preserving the natural environments enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.

The commission works with the public, private and public organizations and agencies to accomplish the goals of preserving Sheridan County’s history.

In 2020, Sheridan County adopted a new Comprehensive Plan. The development of this plan brought together residents, business owners, elected government officials and organizations through public meetings to discuss and decide what the future of Sheridan County should look like.

To grasp the daunting task of preserving a county with an abundance of historical relevance, the commission is currently working on a draft of the Preservation Plan for Sheridan County.

Created from the completion of over 200 surveys taken by Sheridan County residents outlining historical preservation priorities, Campbell and Edinger told listeners of Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program the plan is still in draft form. This draft will be revised and the commission is asking the public for feedback on the plan in its current state.

The rough draft is open to public comment until Jan. 15, and can be found here. Public comments on the draft can be emailed to bocc@sheridancounty.com.

Edinger said the draft will be reviewed and revised again before being sent to the Sheridan County Board of Commissioners for a vote to adopt the plan.
