The Sheridan Troopers dug themselves a hole, got out of it, dug themselves into another hole, but couldn’t get out of that one.

After rallying from a 6-0 deficit to tie the game at 6, the Troopers (43-23) found themselves down 6 again, and saw their season end with a 12-6 loss vs. the Casper Oilers at the 2021 Wyoming Legion Baseball AA State Tournament in Laramie.

Casper (47-25-1) scored 4 in the bottom of the first and 2 in the bottom of the second, before the Sheridan offense got to work in the top of the 3rd.

The first run came in courtesy of a Cody Kilpatrick single, which scored Michael Greer.

Then with the bases loaded, the Troopers scored 1 run off of a hit batsmen (Caden Steel), and a walk (Rich Hall).

Nate Killian then hit into a fielders choice and it appeared that Dalton Nelson scored, because the home plate umpire ruled the catcher juggled the ball, when he stepped on home plate for the force out.

After discussing the situation with the field umpires, the call was reversed and Nelson was called out.

Manager Ben Phillips argued the call and was ejected.

The Troopers were able to continue the momentum as Cael Hambrick got a 2-run single, scoring Steel and Hall.

Carter Dubberly was then able to reach on an error and Killian took advantage to tie up the game.

The Oilers responded with 4 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to go ahead 10-6, added 1 more in the bottom of the 4th and 1 more in the bottom of the 6th to end the scoring.

Sheridan loaded the bases in the top of the 4th, but couldn’t score.

The first 2 batters in the top of the 7th reached via walk, but nothing came out of that situation either.
