The light at the end of the tunnel

The Sheridan Memorial Hospital Foundation is matching all gifts in June to finish the Transitional Care Expansion Campaign.
The Foundation is an organization that devotes its time and fundraising efforts to help Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Funding from individual, corporate, foundation gifts and grants enables the Foundation to financially assist Sheridan Memorial Hospital with strategic and vital healthcare projects.
The latest project is the expansion of the Transitional Care Unit. According to The Foundation Chief Development Officer Cody Sinclair, the expansion includes repurposing space on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the original 1954 hospital. This will increase the hospital’s Transitional Care rooms from 8 semi-private rooms to 20 comfortable, private rooms.
Surgery and injury can be physically and emotionally taxing, healing can take months or years. A Transitional Care Unit (TCU) is a recuperative and supportive place to heal following an injury, surgery, or serious illness. Helping patients get to the end of the long tunnel of recovery. From changes to one’s daily schedule to the adjustments necessary to return home – the care team of nurses, doctors, and therapists manage transitions and help patients regain a level of independence for a safe return home.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, Sheridan Memorial Hospital Medical and Surgical Manager Lacy Johnson told listeners what a day in the life of the TCU is like and how important being close to home is for the healing process.
The aging population is larger than ever before in human history. The increased need for Transitional Care in the Sheridan County community, led to the design of this project. This expansion will increase the number of patients the hospital is able to offer specialized care to, before they transition back home.

According to Sinclair, the community support for the project has been amazing over the last eight months. Local community donors and foundations have given just over $4 million of the $4.4 million goal. The goal has not yet been met, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
