Pat BlairTwo students, one from Big Horn and the other from Tongue River High School, were seated on the Sheridan County School District 1 board of trustees this week under a new provision approved by the district’s trustees last year.
District 1 Superintendent Pete Kilbride explained.
As approved by trustees last fall, the student trustees positions will be rotated among the two high schools in School District 1, to allow more students to experience what it’s like to serve on a governing board.
Kilbride said the students will serve four-month terms, in particular the two current student trustees. He said both are seniors, so they will probably serve on the board through April, then have May off.
Turning to other matters, trustees heard a report from Sheridan County Deputy Boot Hill, the district’s school resource officer. Hill gave a presentation on his role and what he does in the district.
Kilbride said Hill serves both the Big Horn and Tongue River sides of the district.
The district created the school resource officer position two years ago. Kilbride said the costs of Hill’s services are split between the district and the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, adding that’s a service the district wants to continue.
