A potential partnership between Sheridan Memorial Hospital and Montana’s largest hospital is taking a step forward.

At the recent SMH Board of Trustees Meeting (Wednesday, February 25th), the Board passed a resolution to put in a request to the Sheridan County Commissioners, that the hospital be allowed to proceed in putting together a partnership with the Billings Clinic.

Hospital CEO Mike McCafferty says it is procedural to go to the Commissioners, as they are responsible for the health and safety of the county.

The hospital held a number of public meetings in October and November, and McCafferty says the partnership provides a lot of positive opportunities.

“It’s not an exclusive arrangement, but it’s an opportunity for us to improve our communication and improve specialty care available in this community, so people might not have to travel as much. There’s just a lot of real opportunity there. We share an electronic medical record, so that being able to communicate between providers in Billings and in Sheridan is a big deal for patients.”

McCafferty adds he estimates that the partnership could be official by the end of this year.
