Performers and other users of the stage at Crazy Woman Square in Buffalo will not have to look into the sun or cook in the direct sunlight in the near future, once an awning is installed that will take care of those issues.

The Buffalo Chamber of Commerce is wrapping up the project to get the equipment installed as well as a remote-controlled electric motor to extend and retract the awning when needed.

Chris Harmon, with the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce Board, brought the plans to the Buffalo City Council to update them on the progress of the project.

Funding for the project came from One-Percent Funds, with the project already approved and funded, so no official approval was needed by the council, but they were pleased to be kept updated on the project, according to Councilman Wes Haskins.

The awning will be purchased from Sheridan Tent and Awning for just over $5,500 and Chesbro Electric of Buffalo will install the electric motor to operate the awning for about $900 according to Harmon.

The awning will be just over 19 feet across and will be tucked between between two beams on the front of the stage, and will match the existing color scheme of the building.
