Finding the Right One

The process of choosing the next city administrator was discussed and then acted on by the Sheridan City Council Monday night. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
The search for a permanent city administrator in Sheridan is ongoing, as the field has been narrowed down to three applicants. The Council Monday night held a lengthy discussion on what the next steps should be in determining who the best hire would be for the City. The Council debated whether or not to have stakeholders from the community and city staff be a part of the vetting process for choosing an administrator. The motion to have three community stakeholders and three members of city staff be involved in the process was made by Councilman Thayer Shafer and was ultimately approved by a vote of 4-3.
Councilors Jacob Martin and Clint Beaver, along with Mayor Roger Miller voted against the motion. Councilman Martin felt the Council should be responsible for making the decision of who the next city administrator should be.
Other business from the meeting included the Council agreeing to have Interim City Administrator Mike Jackson work remotely from his home in Washington state until a new permanent administrator is hired and in place. We’ll have details of the agreement as well as other items from the meeting for you in future stories.
