Gun Thief Sentenced

In late March of this year, 18-year-old Gabrial Holcomb along with another adult male and four juveniles were arrested for breaking into a residence in Sheridan and stealing a number of firearms that included pistols, revolvers, rifles and various ammunition. One adult female was cited for misdemeanor accessory after the fact. Holcomb was arrested and charged with two felonies, aggravated burglary and theft. At a hearing in District Court on July 20, Holcomb, pursuant to terms of a plea agreement reached with the State, pleaded guilty to the felony theft charge. The State recommended that the aggravated burglary charge be dismissed as part of the plea deal.

At sentencing Tuesday, District Court Judge Darci Phillips accepted the terms of the plea agreement, and sentenced Holcomb to 3 to 5 years in prison, suspended in lieu of a split-sentence of 189 days and three years of supervised probation. Holcomb was given credit for 189 days served of presentence confinement. Holcomb was ordered to pay $325 in court costs and assessments, $500 in public defender fees and $2,775 in restitution.
