Every May, the nation observes Older Americans Month. Each year a theme is chosen, this year’s theme is Aging Unbound.

As Americans age, the time required to perform the typical household chores can become longer as the ability to lift, push a vacuum, and complete other tasks becomes more difficult with age. What used to take an hour or two, can take twice as long, if not longer to accomplish.

Although most people may not enjoy housework, seniors may grow to dread the time they must invest in simply completing mundane tasks many take for granted.

Director of Development for the HUB on Smith, Meredith Sopko told listeners of Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program the HUB offers Help at Home, a program that assists seniors with those mundane housekeeping tasks so they can enjoy their golden years doing things they would like to do.

Sopko said the sliding scale pay program is only possible due to donations made by generous individuals in the Sheridan community and grants from varying sources.

The service is available for those living Sheridan County’s ancillary communities, such as Story and Ranchester but scheduling may be tight due to manpower.
