Wyoming’s estimated population may be on the rise and the northern part of the state may have experienced a bigger increase than other parts.
According to the Wyoming Economic Analysis Division, as of July 1st, 2022, the Cowboy State’s estimated population was a little more than 581,000 residents, which is up by about 1,900, compared to July 1st, 2021.
Numbers-wise, Campbell County had the biggest estimated increase with an additional 525 residents.
Sheridan County was 3rd with an increase of 429, and Johnson County was up by 97.
Percentage-wise, Sheridan County was 2nd with 1.4% increase.
Only Lincoln County had a higher rate at 2.4%.
Dr. Wenlin Liu, who is the state’s Chief Economist, says state-wide nearly 2,500 more residents moved into Wyoming than moved out from July 2021 to July 2022, which suggests the direction of net migration has turned upward, after falling between 2014 and 2019.
Also from July 2021 to July 2022, there were more deaths than there were births, possibly due to the recent covid pandemic.
From April 1st, 2020 to July 1st, 2022, Sheridan County had the highest increase in estimated resident numbers, with almost 1,200 new residents.
That translates into a 3.8% increase, which is the second highest percentage increase behind 5.5% in Lincoln County.
The importance of April 1st 2020, is it’s the date when the US Census numbers were turned in to be officially counted.
