The Sheridan City Council met for their first regularly scheduled business meeting of April Monday night. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

Emergency Operations Ordinance

The City Council, by a vote of 5 to 2, gave first reading approval of ordinance 2265 regarding emergency operations. Councilors Kristen Jennings and Andrew Patceg voted against the ordinance. City Attorney Brendon Kerns said the ordinance would clarify the emergency proclamation procedure for the City.

The ordinance as it was approved, gives the mayor the authority to issue an emergency proclamation.

The ordinance must be approved two more times before it takes effect. Two annexation ordinances were approved by the Council on second reading. A resolution and subsequent ordinance to annex 14,308 square feet of Holloway Avenue right-of-way was approved on first reading and City Public Works Director Hanns Mercer provided the Mayor and City Council with an update on the potholes on streets throughout the city.

I’m curious to know why Jennings and Patceg voted against it.

Good job and kudos to councilors Jennings and Patceg. Giving gov’t more power, even if it’s a so-called “emergency” is always a bad idea. We need less gov’t and more freedom in America.
