cvannoyClearmont Day scheduled for June 18 in the Branding Iron Park in Clearmont.
Clearmont Day has been celebrated for over 100 years, although there were some years when the celebration waned. Wars, disinterest, Covid-19 — have, off and on, disrupted the celebration.
The first reference to Clearmont Day was this article in the Sheridan Post, August 19, 1919; The first community fair to be held in Sheridan County is to be held at Clearmont, Wyo., Sept. 18, 1919. TheClearmont Commercial Club is back of this move.…..
In the Sheridan Post in Aug of 1920, there is the article, Attention Is Centering On Clearmont Day Big Barbecue Will be One of the Features of the Program — Prizes for Agricultural Exhibits. Saturday. September 11th will be remembered for a long time as Clearmont Day, when a big endurance race, barbecue, and wild west show will be staged.
After going on for many years, for a time the celebration died out, but was revived in the mid 1980s by the Clearmont Historical Group. Although not held every year, in 2022, the Clearmont Community will again host the Day. It used to be in the fall, but the date has been changed to summer and then late spring.
While today’s events will not include wild horses or horse races, the day will start at 7:30 a.m. with a Fun Run. There will be a 1 mile, 5K and 10K run, organized by the Clear Creek Recreation District. For more info or to register visit ClearmontFunRun.itsyourrace.com
Following the run, at 9:30 there will be a Soapbox Derby, organized by the Clearmont Community Center Foundation, and prizes will be provided by the Clearmont Fire Board.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m, there will be vendors in the Branding Iron Park, including Brent Bien, candidate for governor, A&R Wyo Inspirations, and HazMat Hot Sauce.
The Clearmont Women’s Club will be drawing a winner on their quilt raffle, and the Clearmont Community Center Foundation will be selling raffle tickets for a Widowmier Precision rifle.
The Vendors are organized by the Clearmont Day Committee. Booth space is still available, for more information contact Amy Rowe at the Clear Creek Rec. District, 307-752-5079.
At noon there will be a lunch, with hamburgers and fixings donated by Power River Energy Foundation and the Clearmont Community Center Foundation. Sides are potluck, and everyone is invited to bring their favorite side dish or dessert.
From 1 to 3 will be live music provided by Mike Kuzara, with thanks to the town of Clearmont.
1-4 is a kid zone, including a duck race at 2 p.m. funds raised support the Clearmont Ambulance board.
The day concludes with a corn hole tournament at 4 p.m., organized by Clear Creek Stop, and dinner will be available for purchase at Clear Creek Stop.
Everyone is welcome, and like the Sheridan Post 1919 article stated, The sports are to be of the nature that elbows will rub so that you will get acquainted with your neighbor and at the end of the day say that you were glad to be there because you saw someone that you had not seen for some time, or that you saw something which taught you something.
That is what Clearmont Day is all about.
