cvannoyOn Feb 3 the Sheridan Rotary Club announced that they will be hosting their 5th Annual Ice Fishing Derby on February 22nd at Lake Desmet.
All proceeds benefit the community through club service projects, youth leadership scholarships, college scholarships, and donations to non-profits.
The concept of the derby began during COVID restrictions. The club was looking to create an annual fundraiser and anglers spread out over the lake seemed to meet the requirements of “isolation”.
So far, the derby continues to be a hit.
In years past, they have seen anywhere from 250-364 participants each year.
Walleye and Perch are usually the least caught of the four categories.
The largest fish of the derby has the opportunity to win $25k if the last two digits of the fish’s weight match the two numbers pre-selected prior to the derby.
The prizes for this year include the Grand Prize, the above-mentioned opportunity to win $25,000; Tagged Fish Payouts- there will be 200 tagged fish will be released before the derby.
