While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Executive Board Member AARP Volunteer Clarence Montano and AARP Volunteer Wayne Schatz told listeners a little about the AARP Community Action Team and the Souper Bowl of Sheridan.
The Community Action Team is a group of Sheridan County residents that work to connect with Sheridan Region communities through fun meaningful activities that make an impact.
According to Montano, AARP is an organization for community members of all ages and offers an opportunity for those that wish to volunteer and get involved but may not yet know how and where to start.

These activities can range from hosting free movie nights, golf, baseball and hockey events to organizing large food drives to restock food pantries for many other organizations within the county, such as the Souper Bowl.
Recognized as one of AARP Wyoming’s most veteran and active volunteers, Shatz said he appreciates the various levels of involvement with the organization. Schatz is the mind behind the original AARP Souper Bowl of Sheridan. Setting volunteerism goals, he knows he can get involved at any level at any given time with the Community Action Team.

Sheridan AARP also offers opportunities for those of any age to garden. Montano said there are currently a few plots available for anyone in the community who may not have any open land available to get their hands dirty and grow their food.

In its ninth year, the Souper Bowl is now in full swing. Sheridan-area residents can once again vote for their favorite team in a two-week non-perishable food drive for local food banks.
