Sheridan County Conservation District Approves Fiscal Year 2023 Budget

The new fiscal year is underway for the Sheridan County Conservation District and another good year could be on the horizon.

District Board members approved the budget of about $875,000, which is down about $55,000 from the previous fiscal year, but a lot more than the normal budget which is anywhere between $300,000 and $500,000.

District Manager Carrie Rogaczewski says the District finished the recent fiscal year with a surplus of about $520,000.

Aside from the work that’s being planned on and done at the Old Acme Power Plant, the board is pleased with countless other projects that may not have received much publicizing.

“A number of small improvement projects were completed, including some septic system replacements, some corral modification, stock water fencing work that were completed, some erosion rehabilitation projects in response to some of the flooding in 2019. Those finally were finished towards the beginning of the fiscal year.”

Rogaczewski adds she anticipates by this time next year, the District could have a surplus of around $1-million, but that depends on the number grants awarded.
