Donna Scantling

Funeral services for Donna Scantling, 86-year-old Buffalo resident who passed away quietly at her home in Buffalo early Wednesday morning, surrounded by her family, will be held Wednesday, April 23rd, at 10:00 a.m. at the Union Congregational Church in Buffalo with the Reverend Dr. Bob Miller officiating. Interment will be in Willow Grove Cemetery, with graveside services to immediately follow the funeral. A reception will be held in the basement of the Congregational Church following the graveside. Donations in Donna’s memory may be made to the Susie Bowling Lawrence Hospice at 497 West Lott St. in Buffalo, Wyoming 82834. Online condolences may be made at www.harnessfuneralhome.com.

Donna Valera Scantling was born on July 21, 1938, in Buffalo, Wyoming, to Bud and Doris Gilbert. She was the oldest of four children, two sisters and one brother. She grew up in Buffalo and graduated from Johnson County High School in 1956. In 1961, Donna met and married the love of her life, Don Scantling. Together they raised six children, and Donna dedicated her life to being a stay-at-home mom, creating a home filled with laughter, love, and faith. In 1983, she and Don moved to Gillette, Wyoming. Later, they relocated to Sheridan to operate a partnership owned motel before returning to Buffalo in 1990.

Donna loved spending time with her family, hosting a get-together for any occasion. She was the life of the party and was never ready to call it quits.  Donna was a lifelong and active member of the Union Congregational Church. Her strong faith and generous heart touched many lives. She was also a 4-H leader, sharing her talents and time with the community’s youth.  She was a talented homemaker and loved sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and cooking. Her handmade creations and heartfelt meals brought joy and comfort to her family and friends.  Donna’s kind heart, creativity, and constant love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband Don Scantling of Buffalo; two sons, Chip Scantling and his wife Laurie of Buffalo and Cody Scantling also of Buffalo; four daughters, Sharla Miller and her husband Shane of Gilbert, Arizona, Michelle Scantling of Billings; Stacy Vaughn and her husband Dave of Gillette, and Lissa Carpenter and her husband Charlie of Sheridan; one brother Vale “Uncle Buck” Gilbert and his wife Anne of Buffalo; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Kareen Little Bald Eagle, and Janie Eagleroad as well as one infant grandson, Baby Jo Scantling.
