Matthew Paul Wesnitzer, 42, passed away in his sleep at his home on February 19, 2025. Our loving son, brother, uncle, grandson, and friend was born October 3, 1982, in Worland, WY to Mari Lynne Huhnke and Joe Wesnitzer. Known for his gruff exterior, Matt was in fact a kind-hearted, caring, and warm individual whose hugs could brighten anyone’s day. His infectious personality made a lasting impact on everyone he met.

Matt believed in the saying “work hard, play hard”. He spent much of his career in siding and construction and took immense pride in the quality of his work. Matt had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed spending time fishing, shooting, camping and finding treasures for his antique junk collection. His love for April Fools’ Day and the 4th of July brought joy and laughter to those around him. And you could find him honoring his mother by scaring the heck out of anyone he could on their favorite holiday, Halloween.

Matt fiercely loved his family, especially his nieces and nephew, who held a special place in his heart. Matt was preceded in death by his mother, two uncles, brother and several grandparents. He is survived by his father Joe Wesnitzer (Carol Sims) of Sheridan, sister Amanda Bunker (Adam) of Sheridan, grandmother Sharon Fech and step-grandfather Joe of Meeteetse, fiancé Sarina Sturtz of Gillette, nieces and nephew, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Despite his struggles with alcohol, he remained a source of love and humor for his family and friends. We encourage those who may be facing similar challenges to seek help and take steps toward sobriety, knowing that support and understanding are always available. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Matt’s name may be made to the Volunteers of America Northern Rockies in Sheridan, Wyoming, or to an addiction-recovery charity of your choice.

In addition to his family, Matt will be remembered by his many close friends and all those whose lives he touched. His memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him. Due to winter conditions, services will be planned for the coming summer.

Online condolences may be written at www.kanefuneral.com.

Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.

I miss Matt very much! He was the best uncle I could ever have. When there wasn’t a father figure in my life he was there to fill that void. He taught me so much, so many morals and values will be held truly. His spirit may be missed but he’s never gone. I hope he is resting peacefully with my grandma and my uncle Justin. Have fun living your next life! You’re always in my memory and heart ❤️ I love you uncle asshole. (Matt)
