The Sheridan area could be on the big screen a lot more often in the near future.

Sean Higgins, who is from Sheridan and President of Story House Incorporated, made a presentation last week to the Sheridan Economic and Education Development Authority, in regards to trying to set up a film studio and film production areas in Sheridan.

He says the project could bring more than 400 hundred film related jobs to the Sheridan area.

Sheridan Mayor Rich Bridger says one issue would be finding qualified workers and Mr. Higgins might be able to put together some training classes through Sheridan College.

“He wants to work with the college to provide that sort of training, and do that serve on-site, real live training with those people, and so it would sort of self-perpetuate and feed itself and then of course there’s just people in the industry that will come do that as well.”

Mayor Bridger says Mr. Higgins has asked SEEDA to contribute to the project with a grant request on Story House Inc’s behalf to the Wyoming Business Council.

A complete business plan and private funding would need to be dealt with, before that can happen.

The studio could end up being built near the Sheridan VA Medical Center and construction could start as early as 2023.

In 2016, Leon Schatz and I were commissioned by SEEDA and the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce to complete a feasibility study on bringing more film and TV production to both Sheridan & Johnson Counties. I’m curious whether any current SEEDA members have read that feasibility study.
