A Sheridan area judge could soon be a member of Wyoming’s highest court.
The Wyoming Judicial Nominating Commission has announced that Sheridan District Court Judge John Fenn, is one of three nominees to fill a vacancy within the Wyoming Supreme Court.
Judge Fenn is a 1980 graduate of Big Piney High School and obtained a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Wyoming in 1984, and eventually his master’s degree.
He then worked at the Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah, where he oversaw energy and utility management for the entire base, and earned national recognition for his energy management program.
He returned to UW to pursue a law degree and graduated with honors in 1993.
Fenn was hired by Yonkee and Toner Law of Sheridan and in 1996 he became a partner in the firm.
During his tenure he represented clients in cases that went as far as the Wyoming Supreme Court and the US Supreme Court.
In November 2006, Governor Freudenthal appointed Fenn as judge of the Fourth Judicial District in Sheridan.
A vacancy is opening up within the Wyoming Supreme Court, because Justice Michael Davis is retiring in mid January of 2022.
The other nominees for the position are Robert Jarosh, and Melinda McCorkle, who are both attorneys from Cheyenne.
Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon has 30 days to appoint one of the three nominees to serve as the new Justice.
