At an arraignment hearing this week in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan, 20-year-old Zachary Standard entered a plea of “not guilty” to the charge of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree. District Court Judge John Fenn set a three-day jury trial to begin on February 28 and scheduled a pretrial conference for February 3 at 11 am. Standard’s bond was continued under the same terms and conditions that were previously set in Circuit Court. Sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
In other news from District Court, 29-year-old Samantha Wade of Sheridan pleaded “guilty” to the charge of Endangering Children for knowingly being in possession of methamphetamine with two minors in the home. The plea agreement reached with the State recommends a sentence of 2 to 3 years in prison, suspended in lieu of two years of supervised probation. Judge Fenn ordered that a presentence investigation be completed and set the sentencing date for January 11 at 9 am.
